May 15th 2011 Sunday

Well, this week instead of Singing In The Rain we were humming
Up, Up and Away with the wind that turned our booths into sails.

FYI: We learned something very important this week. We had gusts that lifted Bev's booth 8" off the ground (even with 25# sandbags on each leg & being rafted to neighbors) until she changed her weight setup. When it is as windy as it was on Saturday, weights are ONLY effective if they are 1) attached to the TOP of your booth and 2) not resting on the ground (and bungeed to the corner leg so they're not swinging free). Once we made that change to Bev's booth, it didn't budge an inch the rest of the day. We all need to keep that in mind & utilize proper weights and weight distribution so we have no unplanned launches.

On the same subject- we also need to make sure our weights are properly secured- that they - and the cords - are never a tripping hazard. Folks are looking at your great products- and not watching where they're walking so let's keep them safe. Nobody wants to have to use that insurance.

Kate, Janet and Bev were the last to pack up on Saturday and just as we finished, the big, fat raindrops started. How's that for co-operation? Speaking of which, THANKS for doing such a great job policing your area. There was nothing to clean up because everyone did his/her own area...hmm... unless all the trash just blew away....nahhh.

Week 1 was Wet & Wild,
Week 2 was Windy & Wild,
Week 3? we're predicting Wildly Wonderful.

May 14th 2011  Saturday
Let's Market!!
*********************************
May 13th 2011 - Friday
Not so bad... there still saying a balmy 63*.

FYI...
We added a hit counter to the site and got over 70 hits in the first  24 hours- before the blogspot glitch messed up our counter. Ive reinstalled it and started it at 70... watch it climb!
One VERY important thing I'm seeing is that folks are coming to our site, then leaving to go look at YOUR sites! That's exactly what we wanted.

The Feedjit column shows the most current visitors. To see them all- go to the lower right of the page to the Feedjit column... at the bottom of that column it says "real time view"... if you click on those words it will open another window and you can see where all our website visitors have come from and how they left, for example:

Seattle, Washington arrived from skagitvalleysaturdaymarket.blogspot.com on "Skagit Valley Saturday Market: May 14th Vendors

Seattle, Washington left via ukdkwa.com from "Skagit Valley Saturday Market".

This tells us someone from Seattle came to our home page, then looked at the May 14th vendor page to see which vendors will be coming, then used Janet's link to visit her UKDK website. Perfect!

It also shows if the visitor performed a search and what terms they used. Very helpful tool- and free.
and by the way--- in the time it took me to write this, our counter went from 70 to 83. :)

May 11th 2011 - Wednesday
No cancellations this week so we'll see 16 vendors on Saturday morning. ;)

May 10th, 2011 - Tuesday
Has your canopy dried out yet?  Heres' what KING 5 says about next Saturday.

63* is far and away better than what we had last Saturday! It felt like 36*
We have 16 vendors reservations this week. Kate has talked to everyone about their needs for booth placement so she's working on that this week.

Vendor Meeting Scheduled...
Our first vendor meeting is scheduled for 6:30 Tuesday, April 26th at (where else?) the Farmhouse Restaurant. We'll be discussing parking info, guidelines (oh no! we have rules?) booth location assignments, and restaurant discounts for vendors (yay!) etc. so we're all starting on the same page. We'll also have postcards & business cards and info about vista print.com so you can personalize/order your own on the cheap.
We'll be sending an email about the vendor meeting in the next few days. It will include details of the restaurant discount which will apply for this meeting...so it's ok to come hungry...but dont bring the kids, the neighbors and the in-laws.

Our Banners Have Arrived...
We ordered them online and found a good price. We had hoped to find something locally but ultimately, our tight budget was the deciding factor. They're 3' x 10', and will look great on the facade below the Farmhouse Restaurant marquee readerboard- one on each side.

They'll be going up the week before the market starts. The space we'll be using is currently occupied by the Art Bash banner during the Tulip Festival.  We plan to leave them up all summer. We kept it simple- after all, how much can you read when you're zipping by at 65..er...I mean 55 mph?

Our Flyers are Ready....
You'll soon be seeing our flyer in businesses throughout the county. We really appreciate all the generous merchants who are helping us get the word out.  If you would like to print and distribute the 8.5"x11" flyer to your customers and businesses in your area, just email us at saturdaymarket@comcast.net and we'll email you the ready-to-print graphic. If every vendor did a few it would cut our advertising costs (hint, hint) and our personal home printers would be eternally grateful for the well-deserved rest.

Postcards & Business Cards are here...
Good old vistaprint.com. We love that site. They have almost 4000 postcard designs to choose from and after going through about 3000 we saw this one and it just popped. Just perfect for us. We plugged in our info, ordered and they were here in no time.

We couldn't find the same design in their business cards selection so
we went splashy on one

and subtle on another

A few of the postcards and business cards will be available for you at the vendor meeting. We've already left some for the Farmhouse Restaurant to hand out to their customers and have been distributing them ourselves.
